Does your yoga practice feel more like a routine or a checklist? Do you find that you react rather than observe (i.e. feeling antsy to move onto the next pose, rather than experiencing the one that you are doing)? Do you find yourself easily distracted and comparing yourself to your fellow yogis? Are you interested in cultivating more awareness, understanding, and presence? If any of this resonates with you, then this workshop is for YOU!

“Mindfulness” as defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn, means “paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Yoga, simply put, means to unite. The asana (physical posture) is said to be the vehicle by which one pursues union, with oneself, others, and the universe. Taken together, mindful yoga integrates these two disciplines to deepen the “union journey”by practicing asana as mindfulness meditation, cultivating more intention, awareness, and purpose. This workshop will provide insights and methods to deepen and transform your personal practice.

Together we’ll explore:

  • Yoga philosophy on mindfulness, including the four establishments

  • Mindful movement vs. automatic movement

  • Cultivating mindfulness on and off the mat

  • Mindful meditation and yoga sessions

Why are the two workshops so far apart? The reason there are three weeks in between workshops is to enable experiential learning and explore the insights learned as a habit.

To continue practicing mindful yoga between workshops, participants will receive a digital package, including access to a mindful yoga session, light homework, as well as further tips and reading material.

Interested in learning how to balance on your hands with more ease and confidence? Looking to lift off without falling on your face? Curious on learning the steps to get there with others in the community? Did you answer yes to any of the above? If so, this workshop is for YOU!

Together, we will explore:

  • Foundations of arm balances, including building upper arm strength and core strength, and maintaining hand lock (hasta bandha)

  • Mindfulness of arm balances to ease comfort with fear, resistance, and tension

  • Insights and methods on holding these postures for longer periods of time

  • The spectrum and variations (including baby steps) of: Bakasana (Crow Pose), Eka Pada Koundinyasana I and II, Parsva Bakasana (Side Crow), Maksikanagasana (Dragon Fly)

All levels are welcome to join in! Have supports handy such as pillows or blocks.
